Game reserves have had to find new ways to garner support and revenue while the tourist attractions and lodges that usually fund them have been closed due to COVID-19.
Angama Mara safari lodge’s Angama Foundation in partnership with other conservation bodies, has launched The Greatest Maasai Mara Photographer of the Year online auction platform. Beautiful photographs showcasing this renowned area in East Africa are sold in an effort to raise much-needed funds for conservation efforts.
“With tourism being the primary economic driver in the Mara, there has never been a better time to play a more important role in protecting this magnificent reserve, and the livelihoods of all who depend on it,” said Co-Founder of Angama and creator of the competition, Steve Mitchell.
Lodge and camp marketing company, Classic Portfolio, has been hosting ‘Tuesday Talks’ webinars during which industry experts discuss eco-conscious tourism and environmental responsibility, and raise awareness of conservation efforts.
ROAR AFRICA has also announced a new safari experience where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Great Plains Foundation. “It has never been more important than now to curate experiences that facilitate an understanding of how the natural world works, and why and how we should help,” said CEO and Founder of ultra-luxe Africa travel specialist, ROAR AFRICA, Debora Calmeyer.
