Tanzania has reduced the price of the Tourism Business Licence (TALA) for tour operators, as announced by Finance and Planning Minister Mwigulu Nchemba.
The fee for local travel agents and tour operators will be reduced from TZS4.6m (€1 680) per year to TZS1.1m (€420) per year.
The licence fee has been disputed by many local tour operators, many of whom have been forced to ground their vehicles and close down for failing to meet the legal provision, as originally reported on Tanzanian national newspaper, Daily News.
The government has also announced its intention to provide better funding for Tanzania National Parks, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, and the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority.
Tourism still growing
Meanwhile, Tanzania has ranked seventh in the top-10 African countries to have recorded the fastest recent growth in tourism, according to a UN World Tourism Organization report.
The country has maintained the position for a third consecutive year. South Africa has now claimed first place from Egypt in the list of African countries with the most growth in the tourism sector.
According to the report, Tanzania continues to perform well in the tourism industry, despite the global COVID-19 pandemic.
