While acknowledging the “significant impact” of the travel restrictions implemented by several governments around the world, the Lufthansa (LH) Group has reiterated its commitment to offering regular commercial flights to/from South Africa and Namibia, and maintaining these lifeline flights.
So said Dr André Schulz, General Manager Southern & East Africa for the LH Group, pointing out that, due to South Africa and Namibia being classified by the German Robert Koch Institute as ‘Areas of Variant of Concern’, the entry regulations for Germany have been revised by the German authorities.
Therefore, only the following travellers may enter Germany when travelling from South Africa or Namibia:
· German nationals and their immediate family members.
· Holders of German residence permits.
Schulz added that, in principle, all other nationalities may transit through Germany to a destination outside Germany. However, the entry regulations for the country of final destination must be observed.
In accordance with these regulations, the Lufthansa Group will continue offering customers the following commercial Lufthansa and Eurowings Discover flights to/from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Windhoek respectively:
Switzerland flights
The following travellers may enter Switzerland when travelling from South Africa or Namibia:
· Nationals of Switzerland and EEA member states, as well as their immediate families.
· Residents of Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
· Residents of Schengen member states returning to their country of residence
· Holders of a Visa Type D for Switzerland.
· Holders of a Certificate of Entry (Laissez-Passer) issued by Swiss representation abroad.
Transit through Switzerland onward to a Schengen destination is permitted, however the entry regulations for the country of final destination must be observed. All non-Schengen transits through Switzerland are not permitted.
The Lufthansa Group will continue offering its customers the following commercial Swiss and Edelweiss flights to/from Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively:
