Luxury safari company, Angama, is adding to its portfolio of lodges with a second camp in Kenya, Angama Amboseli, a sister property to Angama Mara in the Suswa Mara Triangle.

Guests staying in the camp will have exclusive access to the surrounding Kimana Sanctuary, a 2 300ha wildlife corridor that links Amboseli National Park with the Chyulu Hills and Tsavo protected areas, close to the Tanzanian border.

Angama has partnered with the Big Life Foundation, which will continue to manage the sanctuary on behalf of the 844 Maasai families who manage the land after setting it aside as the very first community conservancy in Kenya in 1996.

The Big Life Foundation is a non-profit conservation organisation focused on preserving the wildlife and habitats of the Amboseli-Tsavo-Kilimanjaro ecosystem of East Africa.

Lease fees paid by Angama will go to these families, ensuring that a centuries-old migratory path used by the region’s elephants will continue to be protected.

“Kimana Sanctuary is a treasure and we couldn’t be more excited to build a camp here that our guests will love,” says Nicky Fitzgerald, Angama CEO. “Angama Amboseli will be the perfect complement to a Mara safari, where our guests will enjoy breath-taking views of Kili and magnificent herds of elephants.”

Site development will begin in the coming months, with more information to follow in April.
