Southern and East Africa continue to lead Africa’s tourism industry, with 57 of the 68 African recipients of the 2022 World Travel Awards originating from the two regions.
Kenya led the way with 25 awards (including Africa’s Leading Destination of the year), followed by South Africa with 24 awards. Destinations and operators from Tanzania netted five awards, with other recipients coming from Rwanda, Ethiopia and Mozambique.
The remainder of the 68 African awards were split between companies and destinations based in Morocco, Egypt and Nigeria, and multi-national organisations.
