The photographic hide at Saruni Samburu lodge in Kenya is ideal for getting up close to the wildlife that comes to the waterhole for a drink, and recent guest, Jemima Scrase, captured an amazing video of some curious African wild dogs.
It is estimated that there are only 6 600 African wild dogs left in the world. They have been on the endangered list for over 20 years.
African wild dogs are sometimes called ‘painted dogs’, referring to their black, tan and white markings. Each animal has a distinct pattern but all have black faces and ears, tan foreheads, and white-tipped tails. They are considered social mammals and gather in packs of around ten individuals.
“With the numbers of the wild dog still very low, especially in northern Kenya, this is a very special sighting,” according to Scrase.
