The Blue Train has won the Diners Club Winelist Award, this time landing Diamond status for its wine list.
The award celebrates well-thought-out and curated wine lists that complement an establishment’s menu and benchmarks it with some of the leading eateries globally.
The Diamond Award is confirmation that The Blue Train carries accurate vintage wines, along with a list of select reserve-aged wines. The presence of foreign wines on the wine list is also considered, serving a truly global wine offering that draws from various regions and producers across the globe.
The awards took place at The Venue Green Park in Sandton, Johannesburg, in September, and restaurants, hotel brands and wineries attended.
“This is another big win for The Blue Train. Being celebrated for our wine list is a nod to our well-considered excellent food and beverage offering on-board,” said Vincent Monyake, Executive Manager of The Blue Train.
“Over 95% of our wines are South African, from some of the most interesting winemakers and vineyards. This accolade echoes our commitment to always elevating the food and beverage offering on board to a new level of enjoyment. It is also an invitation to everyone to come on board, journey with us on an unforgettable culinary experience and surrender to the luxury of slow.”
The Blue Train has been recognised for its stellar wine list by other prestigious awards, including the VERITAS Award, the Michelangelo Award and the Old Mutual Trophy.
“This recognition goes beyond just the wine. It’s an affirmation to every single element of The Blue Train experience, where each element is deliberately thought through with the guest in mind, always aiming to present the best of South Africa’s heritage. Therefore, this is indeed a celebration of South African excellence,” concluded Monyake.
