The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) in partnership with Water Utilities Corporation plans to open dams for leisure and recreational activities to diversify the current tourism offerings in Botswana, says Tafa Tafa, Investment Promotion Manager for BTO.
According to Tafa, new developments will focus on both local and international tourists, while also benefiting communities living around or close to the dams.
Tourism master plans for the dams are being developed and are anticipated to be complete within three years, while BTO anticipates that new facilities will be developed by 2018.
“Currently we have completed the Gaborone Dam tourism master plan,” says Tafa, adding that master plans for the Thune, Dikgatlhong and Letsibogo dams are at the final stages.
