Kalahari Airways’ flights between Gaborone and Gatwick and Gaborone and Cape Town, which were billed for take-off from November 1, have been postponed.
The airline planned to operate between Cape Town and London, stopping for 30 minutes at Gaborone each way.
Chief Executive Officer, Denis Coghlan, told Tourism Update that funding was still a problem. The aircraft has not been acquired, tickets are not on sale, and a licence has not been issued on either route. The reservation page has not yet gone live.
“I hope to have a resolution shortly that will allow us to start up,” said Coghlan. He said he expected the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana to issue a licence once the funding problem was resolved.
“In the absence of any funding I will concentrate on the December/January high season, where I expect to operate up to four fully booked flights per week from December 15 to January 15, roughly, reducing to two flights per week during the off peak season.”
This week Coghlan said he was acquiring an Airbus A340 that he plans to use on the route.
