The government of Botswana has secured P6 million to build a regional archaeological museum, the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife & Tourism (MWET) has announced.

The project will be implemented through MWET’s Department of National Museum & Monuments. It is conducted in partnership with the Kgosi Sechele Museum Trust, the community of Molepolole, local institutions and other government stakeholders.

”The Ntsweng ESP project, currently estimated at about 6 million pula, will develop a management plan for the site, the museum building, a gate house and partial fencing of the site,”Boikhutso Mashona, Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Wildlife & Tourism told Tourism Update.

The museum will be built in Ntsweng Heritage site in Molepolole, about 60 kilometres from Gaborone.

Initial Archaeological excavations were completed in August 2016.

“Construction of the actual site museum is planned to start in earnest in early 2017,” Mashona said.
