Adverse weather conditions have led to the temporary closure of the Cape Point Funicular after a part of the docking station landed on the funicular track.
Strong winds also caused roof and structure sheets to be lifted.
As a result, the funicular cart and footpath leading up to the funicular and the lighthouse has been temporarily closed due to safety concerns.
Contractors are busy dismantling the roof and supporting the structure.
“We will do our best to reopen as soon as weather conditions become favourable, and the area has been secured for visitor use,” SANParks said on Facebook.
SANParks also advised that trees are being uprooted along Plateau Road close to the Cape Point Main Gate.
Also known as the ‘Flying Dutchman Funicular’, it is the only commercial funicular of its type in Africa.
