Shandereka Cultural Village, on the way to Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana, is undergoing renovations.
Sankoyo Tshwaragano Management Trust Manager, Galesengwe Haku, said the work entailed the reconstruction of seven huts, traditional kraal and storage facilities. Haku said the cultural village closed in September for renovations and was expected to reopen in April.
Shandereka offers travellers a glimpse into the culture of the Sankoyo people, who are one of the resident communities in the Okavango Delta. The centre showcases the community’s basket-weaving skills and traditional medicine as well as its games and dance.
Haku added that the community trust had subleased part of Kaziikini camp site opposite Shandereka village to Tamouk Tours.
