The Travel Portfolio has launched eight new birding safaris across Zimbabwe, which include the elusive African Pitta, and some endangered vulture species.
All birding safaris come with a professional birding guide.
- Victoria Falls and Hwange
An 11-day, 10-night experience, the safari takes guests on a guided tour of the Falls, a day and a half birding in Victoria Falls, four and a half days in Hwange, and a da and a half in Kazungula. Guests will stay at Bayete Guest Lodge, Bomani Tented Lodge, and Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge.
- Harare, and Umfurudzi Hippo Pools
The nine-day, eight-night birding safari includes two days birding at Hippo Pools, and four days in Harare, with an opportunity to see raptors, Whyte’s Barbet, Green-backed Honeybird, and Wood Pipit of the Miombo region and wetlands. Guests will be accommodated at Hippo Pools and The Lodge, situated in Greendale Harare.
- Harare Wetlands
The four-day, three-night excursion includes two and a half days in the Harare Wetlands and Miombo region, with some of the possible bird sightings including Wetland species such as the Yellow-mantled and White-winged Widowbirds, Yellow Bishops, and the Streaky-breasted Flufftail. Guests will be accommodated for the three nights at The Lodge.
- Harare, Gonarezhou and Eastern Highlands
This 19-day, 18-night birding experience include three days birding in Harare, a half-day day in Masvingo, three days in Gonarezhou, and seven and a half days in the Eastern Highlands. Bird sightings can include the Sterling Wren-warbler, Southern Hyliota, Green-capped Eremomela, and Red-faced Crombec. Accommodation will include The Lodge, Lodge At The Ancient City, Nhambo Self-Catering Lodge, Frog & Fern, Seldomseen, and Aberfoyle Lodge.
- Harare, Gonarezhou and Eastern Highlands
An eight-night, nine-day itinerary includes birding in the Harare area, which supports a large number of birds through diverse habitats ranging from the Miombo woodlands to wetlands and dams, grasslands and granite formations. Guests will enjoy accommodation at The Lodge, and African Bush Camps – Kanga Camp.
- Harare and Vumba
A seven-night, eight-day safari includes birding tours across Harare and the Eastern Highlands, with possible sightings, including the Western Violet-backed Sunbird, Miombo Double-collared Sunbird, Silvery-cheeked Hornbill, White-eared Barbet, and Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird. Guests will be accommodated at The Lodge and Seldomseen.
- Eastern Highlands
The eight-night, nine-day itinerary includes two days birding in Honde Valley, a day and a half in Vumba and two days in Chimanimani. The Eastern Highlands has over 450 species of birds, including 23 Afrotropical Highland biome birds. Possible sightings include the Swynnerton’s Robin, Pale Batis, Blue-mantled Crested Flycatcher and White-tailed Crested Flycatcher. Guests will be accommodated at Aberfoyle Lodge, Seldomseen, Frog & Fern and The Lodge.
- Harare and Masoka
The six-night, seven-day birding safari includes two days birding in the Harare Wetlands, and four nights at Masoka Camp. This bird safari focuses on the African Pitta – the holy grail of birds – with additional sightings including Arnott's Chat, African Emerald Cuckoo, Red-throated Twinspot, Böhm's and the Mottled Spinetail. Guests will stay at The Lodge and Masoka Camp.
