With more travellers looking to add some adventure to their holiday, here are four options for easy going adventures.
Eco Ranger
Tourvest Destination Management recently introduced a nine day Eco Ranger Experience. Taking place in the Kruger National Park, this experience teaches people how to survive in the bush. At the same time, guests explore the northern Kruger National Park with an experienced guide who shares knowledge about the area’s ecology and wildlife. This adventure is structured around a typical ranger training programme, but is aimed at leisure travellers.
Walking trails
Return Africa’s Pafuri Walking Trails Camp in Northern Kruger is open from April to October, offering guests to explore the remotest parts of Kruger by foot. The trails are led by experienced field guides. Guests wanting a more adventurous experience can opt for minimalist trails, camping under the stars. The landscape features ranges from woodland to riverine forests, mountains, floodplains and pans and is home to the big five.
Cycle Namaqualand
Escape Cycle Tours offers an eight day, seven night cycle tour in the Namaqualand, Western Cape. Between July and October the Namaqualand daisies bloom, transforming the landscape into a sea of colour. The tour traverses between 20km and 50km a day and is led by a professional guide. A support vehicle accompanies the tour, giving guests the option to sit out portions of the cycling. The tour includes a wine and brandy tasting. Highlights include Sundowners along the Orange River and a visit to Augrabies Waterfall.
A walk on the wild side
Cape St Francis Resort in the Eastern Cape offers a three day hiking experience, starting and finishing at the resort each day. It is a night moderate hike, suitable for most fitness levels and ages. The hikes take in the Irma Booysen Flora Reserve and the Dune Ridge Nature Reserve, with extensions into the Seal Point Nature Reserve. Highlights include visits to an unmarked KhoiSan grave, shipwrecks and harbour as well as a sundowners on the beach. The hike is guided and fully catered.
