The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works has said that the Franschhoek Pass will remain closed until further notice.
"For safety reasons, Franschhoek Pass had to be closed after a rockfall on June 22. A geotechnical investigation is under way to determine the extent and nature of the damage. Only once the report on this assessment has been received will it be possible to determine the next steps. The pass remains closed until further notice," said Department of Transport and Public Works spokesperson, Jandre Bakker.
Franschhoek Pass is one of the more scenic routes, with views of the surrounding valleys, gorges and mountains, particularly the drop down to the Franschhoek River from the summit.
