One of the owners of Gramadoelas restaurant in Newtown, Brian Shalkof, has died from injuries sustained during a brutal home invasion, reports IOL.
Shalkof was attacked two weeks ago when he and his partner, Eduan Naudé, were followed into their apartment by a group of four armed men. According to reports, Naudé was left almost untouched, which, together with a series of threatening text messages from an ex-employee, has led to speculation that the group had a vendetta against Shalkof. The couple’s laptops, cellphones and some money were taken by the intruders.
He was taken off life support on July 2 after Naudé and Shalkof’s family were told there was no hope of recovery.
Shalkof and Naudé ran Gramadoelas – a traditional South African restaurant and popular stop for tour groups due to its location connected to the Market Theatre – since its inception in 1967.
