Pullman Cape Town has received Green Key certification – a globally recognised standard for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations in the hospitality sector.

The certification, awarded after an independent audit, confirms the hotel’s compliance with the Green Key programme’s stringent criteria encompassing sustainable management as well as environmental, cultural and socio-economic impacts. Green Key aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

The achievement highlights Pullman Cape Town’s efforts in areas such as water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and sustainability education. The hotel has implemented several key initiatives:

• Low-flow showerheads, dual-flush toilets and daily leak-check protocols reduce water use. The hotel’s guest room management system also ensures electricity is switched off 10 minutes after rooms are vacated. This significantly reduces energy consumption.
• The partnership with WastePlan ensures efficient waste separation and recycling. A dedicated waste management employee oversees the process, which has reduced single-use plastics and increased material reuse.
• Sustainability training for staff encourages eco-friendly practices, including water and energy conservation. Guests are also invited to participate in reducing laundry loads and minimising waste during their stay.

Green Key commended Pullman Cape Town for its compliance with year 1 imperative criteria, highlighting the implementation of energy-efficient lighting, eco-label cleaning products and waste management practices.
