Gcwabe takes the financial reins at Wesgro
Wesgro, the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, has announced the appointment of Sandiso Gcwabe as Chief Financial Officer with effect from January 1, 2023.
As a Chartered Accountant, Gcwabe has served on several forums whose objectives are to improve financial management and reporting in the public sector, including the Public Sector Accounting Forum, and as the Deputy Chairperson of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants Southern Region Public Sector Committee.
Beyond public sector strategy and financial governance work, he also makes time to serve as a Trustee of the Khayelitsha Youth & Community Centre Trust, which owns and manages the multimillion-rand Isivivana Centre in Khayelitsha.
Gcwabe has held various financial leadership roles in the public sector, and as Auditor-General of South Africa, which has given him in-depth insights into financial management and governance.
Most recently, he was the CFO of the Western Cape Liquor Authority, a regulator for the retail sale and micro-manufacturing of liquor in the Western Cape, overseeing the systems of strategic, financial, risk, compliance and supply chain management.
Gcwabe commented: “It is with great excitement and humility that I take on the Chief Financial Officer role at Wesgro. I look forward to bringing my expertise in understanding context, having a clear long-term view, and navigating ambiguity to an already-successful agency in the Cape. I am relentlessly solutions-driven and aim to create sustainable value for the Agency as well as key stakeholders in the public and private sectors.”
Wesgro CEO, Wrenelle Stander, welcomed the appointment. “Wesgro is pleased to announce that Sandiso will join the Executive leadership team. He has a solid track record of success and brings a wealth of experience from a diverse range of industries and will be a crucial part of ensuring that the agency remains a globally competitive trade and investment promotion agency into the future. I have full confidence that Sandiso will take Wesgro to new heights.”
