The latest Tourism Update monthly salary poll shows a further rise in the number of people receiving 100% of their pre-COVID salary.
A total of 44% of respondents received their full salary last month – up from 37% in February, and 32% in January.
This shows a continuation in the trend of the local travel trade industry slowly recovering in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, based on 183 votes received.
However, what remains unchanged is that 28% of respondents still earn below 20% of their salary or are unemployed as a result of COVID-19.
The Head of the National Disaster Management Centre has declared the floods in KwaZulu Natal last week to be a provincial disaster that has so far left at least 443 people and caused billions of rands of damage to critical infrastructure, including roads, homes, buildings, major water pipes and reservoirs.
