The Kenya Tourism Federation has welcomed the lifting of warnings against visits to Mombasa and the North and South Coast beach resorts by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. The only area that remains affected is the Old Town area on Mombasa Island.
“This most positive development follows on from the recent softening of the British Travel Advisory but goes further by removing the restrictions on the beach resorts north and south of Mombasa,” KTF said in statement.
According to KTF, there are currently no restrictions on travel to Nairobi apart from advice to avoid Eastleigh, Pangani and the slum areas - areas ordinarily not visited by tourists.
“We also wish to reiterate a very important aspect in that there are no restrictions on travel to the various safari destinations within Kenya,” said KTF, adding that along the coast, it is only Lamu County mainland where visits are being discouraged. German visitors are advised not to travel within 60km of the border with Somalia and to avoid travelling north of Pate Island near the Somali border.
“We welcome this relaxation of the travel advisory earlier issued by the German Government and take this opportunity to assure our esteemed visitors from Germany and other parts of the world that they can expect to receive the normal friendly and hospitable welcome for which Kenyans are renowned.”
