As South Africa’s high season draws near, tourism officials on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast have reminded holiday-goers to support the region’s Buy Local campaign.
The campaign serves as a platform to promote the region’s SMMEs and encourage both residents and visitors to sources goods and services from local enterprises.
“We encourage our visitors and residents to consider buying locally manufactured gifts, or to rely on local services this festive season. Our local offerings are not only top quality, but this support ensures that local businesses and families will continue to prosper going into 2025,” said Vusumuzi Sibiya, CEO of the South Coast Tourism Investment Enterprise (SCTIE).
The South Coast covers 500km of coastline south of Durban, from the town of eManzimtoti down to Port Alfred.
Stimulate local business over busy high season
Following November’s announcement that the KZN South Coast had again been awarded the highest number of Blue Flag beaches in the province (a total of seven), SCTIE expects a bumper holiday season.
“As the festive season approaches, the KZN South Coast is looking forward to another bumper season, in a large part thanks to our subtropical climate and Blue Flag beaches,” said Sibiya.
He said by visitors buying local, they could support the creation of a self-sustaining local economy characterised by responsible tourism and conscious consumer habits.
“With the festive season bringing a number of holidaymakers to the region, we’re calling on them to join the campaign, support our local businesses, and ensure the KZN South Coast remains a thriving tourist destination.”
Sibiya pointed out that numerous markets and festive events would be held over the period, offering a wealth of locally made furniture, food, décor, clothing and arts and crafts products.
“I believe this is an opportunity to uncover the natural talent that exists on the KZN South Coast, to support our local economy, and to end the year on a really positive note.”
Sibiya urged visitors to purchase goods and secure services from Buy Local’s online directory.
