Between October and December each year, about 10 million straw-coloured fruit bats descend into a tiny patch of evergreen swamp forest inside Kasanka National Park, northern Zambia.
The African straw-coloured fruit bat, the second-largest fruit bat on the continent, can have a wingspan of up to a metre, and the adults weigh up to 350g.
The annual Kasanka bat migration is also the planet’s largest mammal migration, according to Africa Geographic.
“This natural phenomenon is unique only to Kasanka and lends itself to some truly astonishing birdlife sightings,” Zambia Tourism said in a post on Facebook.
