Fifteen learners from disadvantaged backgrounds received their NQF level-5 certificates from Tourvest, following completion of a course in general travel and tourism through Tourvest’s learnership programme.
It was expected that up to 90% of the learners would be retained on a permanent basis by Tourvest’s Travel Services (TTS) division, Tourvest said in a statement.
Judi Nwokedi, Tourvest’s Group Chief Operating Officer, said the learnership programme had played a dual role in the company’s overall BBBEE strategy. “Firstly, it is a sound contributor to broad-based empowerment in that we are able to transfer skills and provide career opportunities to members of impoverished communities. Secondly, it gives the Tourvest group a hot-house in which to develop and retain its own talent in an industry where quality consultants are scarce.
“We see the value of investing in these programmes and are motivated to continue presenting them. I am extremely proud of our graduates and wish them all the best for the future,” she said.
