This year's SATSA Conference isn't just about listening – it's about experiencing the power of storytelling. From the man who built a global brand on chicken to the film maker who befriended an octopus and the industry leaders who kept us going through the toughest times, get ready to be inspired by individuals who have changed the world, one captivating story at a time.
Guiding us through this incredible journey is our ”Chief Narrator”, Natalia Rosa. Natalia is the powerhouse who steered South African tourism through the storm. When the pandemic brought the world to a standstill, Natalia sprang into action. As CEO of Big Ambitions, she has an unmatched ability to connect with and inspire audiences.
So, who are some of the other captivating storytellers?
Robbie Brozin, the man who spiced up the world, one Nando’s at a time. From humble beginnings in South Africa, Brozin built a global empire on the foundation of delicious peri-peri chicken and a commitment to making a difference. Hear how his philosophy of ‘having fun while making money and changing people's lives’ transformed a simple restaurant into an international phenomenon.
Craig Foster, Oscar-winning film maker, ocean explorer, and champion of the Great African Seaforest, has had an incredible journey from diving deep into the kelp forests to forming a life-altering bond with an octopus. His story, featured in the acclaimed documentary “My Octopus Teacher” illustrates the power of nature to heal, teach, and inspire us to protect our planet.
Prepare to be inspired by Buhle Magwentshu, founder of Asmara Coffee. While many left the city centre during lockdown, Buhle doubled down, opening a coffee shop at Constitution Hill after graduating from the SATSA Tourism Business Incubator Programme, sponsored by City Lodge Hotel Group. What many perceived to be a risky move paid off, proving not only the resilience of entrepreneurs but the enduring spirit of the city centre.
And be sure to catch Sherwin Charles, CEO of Goodbye Malaria, sharing his story of leveraging public-private partnerships to combat this preventable disease in Southern Africa.
The line-up also includes insights from industry leaders like the Gardiner brothers of The Mantis Collection, Johan Groenewald of Royal African Discoveries, Andrew Russell, author and entrepreneur, Monika Luel, Chief Tourism Officer at Wesgro, Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo from City Lodge Hotel Group, Nicolette Booyens from DFA South Africa, Nadine Müller of Go2Africa, Peter Dros from Cheetah Plains, Akash Singh, from Sigma International, and Jeaneret Momberg from Visit Stellenbosch.
