Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) will open a new terminal at Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in June.
The new terminal is expected make the airport a tourism hub, capable of handling six million tourists per year.
TAA Managing Director, Richard Mongella, said the new terminal presented multiple opportunities: "This building is so big it provides opportunities for business and promotion of [the] tourism sector in the country."
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's biggest and busiest international airport, will have parking space for 2 075 vehicles; and screening systems capable of processing 2 800 people an hour, translating into an average of 400 people in 10 minutes.
The announcement comes at an opportune time, as Tanzania is expecting an additional 10 000 Chinese tourists to visit the country this year.
