The International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) and Skål International have launched a campaign leading up to the IIPT World Symposium at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg, from February 16-19, to encourage towns and villages across South Africa to declare themselves IIPT/Skål peace towns or villages.
A goal has been set to achieve 50 IIPT/Skål peace towns and villages by February 15, where each will be committed to promoting values of tolerance, non-violence, gender equality, human rights, youth empowerment, environmental awareness and sustainable social and economic development.
To date there are eight peace towns and villages in SA: Knysna, Stellenbosch, Cullinan, Rayton, Refilwe, Overwacht, Alexandra Township and the Dinokeng Game Reserve.
Towns and villages are invited to join in dedicating their town to peace. For more information and to receive a registration form, contact Louis D’Amore, email: ljd@iipt.org.
