Tourism Update readers have voted ‘improved safety and security of tourists’ (31%) and ‘visa issues’ (26%) as the top two priorities that President Cyril Ramaphosa should have focused on at the State of the Nation Address on Thursday (February 8).
‘Addressing key operational barriers’ came in third (12%), followed by ‘tourism-related infrastructure’ (10%), and ‘increased destination marketing budget’ and ‘meaningful job creation’ (both 6%).
‘Tourism’ was, however, never mentioned in the President’s speech, which the tourism industry has summed up as “overwhelmingly underwhelming”.
