The Sports and Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) Conference and Exhibition taking place from October 29-30 at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) will be attended by Dolphins cricketer, Keshav Maharaj, and the SA hockey team goalkeeper, Sanani Mangisa, as Sports Ambassadors for the event.
Maharaj, an accomplished bowler, has been part of the Dolphins cricket team and Hong Kong Sixes team since 2010. During his career he has received many accolades and has been recognised for numerous awards. He was awarded KZN amateur player of the year in 2013 and recognised as the fittest player in South Africa in the 2013/2014 season.
Mangisa has been playing hockey since the age of 11 and in 2012 she took over as the number-one goalkeeper for the Investec South Africa Women’s Hockey Team. She made her debut in 2006 when SA took on The Netherlands and she then represented South Africa in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
This year the ambassadors and SETE are urging their fans and colleagues to contribute to the ‘I’m_Possible’ Foundation in Durban by donating new and used sporting equipment, which can be dropped off in marked boxes at the event.
I’m_Possible Foundation is a sport non-profit youth-based organisation whose sole purpose is to equip and develop aspiring young sportsmen and women from low-income households. Its projects and programmes aim to create a youth movement of socially active students who engage in their community through sport, team work and giving back.
“We believe that all children should be able to participate in sport, however not everyone can afford necessary sports equipment, coaching or a positive role model. We have seen a need for this in our home town and have made a decision to do something about it. We would like to thank SETE for choosing I’m_Possible once again,” said Chiara Benati from I’m_Possible Foundation.
SETE will be hosted by the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, partnered by CATHSSETA, SASCOC, Tourism KZN and Durban Tourism, South African Airways and Tsogo Sun, and supported by Durban KZN Convention Bureau and broadcasting partners, SABC Sport and Radio 2000.
