Southern Africa 360 has launched two new exclusive tours designed around South Africa’s former President, Nelson Mandela, commemorating his centenary, as 2018 marks the year he would have turned 100 years old.

Southern Africa 360 Managing Director, Collin Thaver says: “We at Southern Africa 360 have taken this to heart and developed some new packages which highlight many of the key Mandela-inspired tourist attractions and historical sites in South Africa.”

Southern Africa 360 has developed two versions of the new tour, namely the 13-day Nelson Mandela’s South Africa, and the 18-day Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom Tour.

Southern Africa 360 has packaged both tours to incorporate many of the important sites in Mandela’s journey, including accommodation with significant meaning, such as the Soweto Hotel, Ferhill Hotel in Howick where Mandela stayed in 1996 when he was awarded The Freedom of Howick, as well as Pumba Private Game Reserve where he enjoyed a safari experience, and the Mandela Rhodes Place Hotel and Spa in Cape Town.

The 13-day Nelson Mandela’s South Africa is a fully-guided informative tour which covers more than 30 of the key Mandela-inspired tourist attractions and historical sites in South Africa.

The tour includes nine out of the ten spots where guests can take their photograph with a statue of Mandela, as well as public artworks, whilst staying in a hotel he once occupied. Guests can follow Mandela’s footsteps, hearing stories about his life as the tour takes guests to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, the Midlands in KwaZulu-Natal, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, with each day being filled with visits to destinations that will bring them closer to understanding the life Mandela once lived.

The 18-day Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom Tour follows a similar itinerary as the 13-day tour, however it includes a safari in the Eastern Cape and, according to Southern Africa 360, one that Mandela himself enjoyed in the Pumba Game Reserve, as well as a trip down the Garden Route.

Furthermore, the guided journey will take guests to the major sites of importance, including prominent places of interest in Johannesburg, Mandela’s capture site near Pietermaritzburg, and Cape Town where he spent 27 years imprisoned in and around the city. In addition, the tour visits the Eastern Cape, the province Mandela hailed from, to visit the metropolitan area named after him – Nelson Mandela Bay.
