The Mara region in Tanzania has announced plans to improve tourism infrastructure. Adam Malima, the Regional Commissioner, has said the plans will assist the tourism sector to make a more valuable contribution to the regional economy.
Key tourism infrastructure, such as roads, airports and hotels, will be improved in an effort to woo tourists.
Malima made the announcement at the end of a meeting with senior government officials from the Lake Zone region, where topics included key plans to speed up economic and social development in the region.
Investment has currently resulted in ongoing improvements of the Makutano-Juu-Natta road, which, on completion, will link the wildlife-rich district of Serengeti with Lake Victoria, and the planned refurbishment of Musoma airport.
Malima called for further investment and a concerted effort to promote the Mara region as a tourism destination.
