Members of the trade have paid tribute to Bongani Tshabalala, who died unexpectedly. He was laid to rest on September 12.
Tshabalala was responsible for Tourism Enterprise Partnership’s (TEP) Ikwezi Tourism Facility, a partnership initiative between Sefa and TEP.
Salifou Siddo, CEO of TEP, said: “Bongani’s job at TEP was not an easy one. As a new initiative, Ikwezi had been struggling to get going but Bongani was determined to turn it into a successful venture. He applied himself to the task with dedication, commitment and a sense of purpose and urgency. There were many challenges along the way but he proved that he was equal to the task. Ikwezi is now Bongani’s legacy to us and we shall look after this legacy by taking good care to grow it to its full potential. We shall do this in memory and remembrance of our departed dear friend and colleague. Bongani’s positive impact on TEP extended beyond Ikwezi. He touched our lives in many other ways through his personal qualities of friendliness, trustworthiness, and dependability. Bongani, my dear friend: only the good die young, they say; I pay tribute and bid you farewell.”
Fathima Haffejee, PA to the CEO at TEP, said: “At 27 years old Bongani Tshabalala achieved so much – both in his professional and personal life. He was a young man dedicated to his job and his family while others at this age are still trying to find their way. Bongani was the driving force behind the recently established division of the Ikwezi Tourism Facility and is responsible for the firm roots that have been laid down here. Upon reflection, his short life on earth reminds me of a blazing comet. A fiery blaze across the night sky which, although short lived, burns with an intensity that leaves all wondering at its splendour. Bongani will be sorely missed by all his friends at TEP.”
“Bongani put God first, loved his family, grandmother and daughter. He was an intelligent individual, with great work ethic and a bright future ahead of him. We are going to miss you so much, Bongani,” said Ntoko Luvuno, Programme Manager at TEP.
Solani Mthethwa, Co-owner of Mopani Lodge, said: “As we join his family, friends and colleagues at TEP and other organisations in mourning the death of Bongani, I wish we could all take a leaf from Bongani’s life and learn from his fundamental principles of hard work, impartiality, dedication, passion and sacrifice, at work and in our families. Bongani was a special man to TEP-Ikwezi, Sefa Mopani Lodge. May the vision he so fervently pursued be resounded and re-echoed until it is realised, even in his absence. Mopani Lodge has lost a hero.”
