“The route between Mthatha and East London offers some of the most authentic cultural exchange and interaction with the Xhosa people,” says Kingsby Senoamali, Tourvest DMC Market Manager for North America and Africa.
The location, he says, offers adventure, folklore and breath-taking views, as well as the pristine beaches to be found in Coffee Bay, Kei Mouth and Cintsha.
Senoamali also recommends the beauty and charm of the Karoo. “Often people see this as a drive through, but there is so much to offer, including artisanal cheese farms, the Swartberg Mountain and the renowned fortified wines.”
Stakeholders agree that a route with the presence of a township geared towards tourism heads the list for authentic traveller experiences.
Gauteng Tourism’s Barba Gaoganediwe says: “It doesn’t get more authentic than a township experience. Clients visit a local shack, drink local beer and walk with the locals in their homestead, living their day-to-day business.” In Tshwane, Patrick Konzolo of Zilko Travel & Tours, says Mamelodi and Shoshanguve township tours are picking up.
