A new documentary, ‘My Octopus Teacher’, that was filmed in Cape Town’s False Bay launched on Netflix this week.
Wildlife filmmaker, Craig Foster, made an unlikely friend in the kelp forests of False Bay. Foster committed to swimming in the bay every day for 10 years, no matter the weather. He realised that he had a better chance of encountering wildlife in the ocean if he free-dived without a wetsuit or oxygen tank. Now, nine years into his commitment, Foster’s documentary tells the story of a friendship he developed with an octopus. He followed the octopus every day as it went about its daily business and, in the process, discovered a range of remarkable behaviours.
