A set of three tourism data dashboards have been developed and made available to the industry as part of Project Khulisa, a set of economic initiatives driven by Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities, Alan Winde, and implemented by Wesgro.
The dashboards use cloud-based business intelligence technology and data from 2014 to date, and are currently in a beta testing phase.
The ‘Western Cape Performance’ dashboard provides and overview of the tourism industry of the Western Cape. Key insights are provided on foreign and domestic tourism trends as well as performance on attractions around the province to provide an overall picture.
The ‘Country and trend insights’ dashboard provides country trends and insights that allow in-depth analysis as well as country comparisons. It is an extension of the dashboard provided for the overview. Emerging trends and insights on what specific tourists enjoy doing while visiting the Western Cape, how much they spend, which region or town they visit, can be found on this dashboard.
The ‘Regional and town trends’ dashboard provides data on visitors to the Western Cape’s towns and regions. Business and other stakeholders can find out what visitors enjoy doing whilst visiting particular towns and regions, how much they spend, where they stay, how long they like to stay and what they enjoyed doing.
Sources for the information available on the dashboards include South African Tourism, regional and local tourism offices, and visitor information surveys.
Wesgro is also developing an event platform that will aggregate event information, starting with Facebook, on to a single platform. Visitors, event organisers and the tourism industry will have an overview of all events happening across the province. The beta version for testing launches in November.
