Wine tasting isn’t just a special event at Mont Rochelle – it’s an everyday occurrence. Dustin Osborne, Mont Rochelle’s resident winemaker, is responsible for the beautiful vineyards and outstanding wines.
Following on from the harvest festival in March, a day of grape picking, wine tasting and delicious foodie treats food, all our grapes have now been harvested and the blending process begins. The team cultivates Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties.
We caught up with Dustin about the wine making process “A lot of passion goes into wine making, but also a lot of time and a lot of tasting. Every single week we taste every batch of wine. When it comes to blending you have to keep an open mind, be able to try some different and whacky ideas, sometimes they work out, sometimes they don’t. For any winemaker the most important skill is to be passionate! The most rewarding part of being a wine maker is being able to see the smile on people’s face’s when they taste your hard work – that’s very rewarding.”
Guests staying at Mont Rochelle can sample the full range of wines during daily tasting sessions. If you can’t make it out to Mont Rochelle, don’t worry, you can buy our wine online no matter where you are in the world.
