Zanzibar plans to do away with stamp duty on air tickets to attract more visitors and investment to the islands. The move is part of Zanzibar’s industrialisation agenda.
In the country’s TZS1.3 trillion (€490.6m) budget 2018/2019 presented in the House of Representatives by Finance Minister, Dr Khalid Mohammed, Zanzibar has prioritised local industries, infrastructure and job creation, reports The Citizen.
While proposing the abolition of stamp duty, Dr Mohammed said that air tickets issued on the mainland for international travel did not attract duty, therefore there was a need to scrap the levy in Zanzibar as a way of better harmonising taxes while bolstering air travel.
