The Africa Youth in Tourism Innovation Challenge 2025 is now accepting applications from young innovators and entrepreneurs across the continent. Organised by Africa Tourism Partners in collaboration with key partners such as the United Nations World Tourism Organisation and BDO South Africa, this initiative aims to encourage innovative ideas that can transform the tourism sector.
Challenge overview
The challenge is open to individuals aged 18-35 and postgraduate students. Participants are invited to submit concepts or projects related to travel technology, sustainable tourism and other tourism-linked fields. Winners will receive mentorship, networking opportunities and access to funding to bring their ideas to life.
The 2025 Africa Youth in Tourism Innovation Challenge will take place alongside the Africa Youth in Tourism Innovation Summit (AYTIS) in Nairobi, Kenya, from June 10-13.
The winner of the challenge will be awarded prizes worth US$1 000. First and second runners-up will each receive prizes worth US$500. Most importantly, past and 2025 AYTIS finalists will be enrolled in the Africa Tourism Innovation Hub recently launched in partnership with Cape Peninsula University of Technology and Namibia University of Science and Technology. The first cohort will commence in the first quarter of 2025.
Joram Mwinamo, CEO of SNDBX Kenya, described the Africa Youth in Tourism Innovation Challenge as a transformative opportunity for young innovators across the continent to shape the future of Africa's tourism sector. “With the chance to connect with industry leaders, investors and policymakers, this platform empowers the next generation of African change makers to drive innovation, create jobs and promote cultural and environmental sustainability. Don’t miss the chance to make your mark on Africa’s tourism landscape – participate and be part of the change!”
The top five finalists will present five-minute demonstrations to the judges at the AYTIS where the winner, first and second runners-up will be selected. Challenge finalists will be announced at the annual Africa Tourism Leadership Forum and Awards at a venue yet to be announced.
