As part of efforts to embrace information communication technologies (ICTs) in marketing destination Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry (METHI) has launched a tourism mobile application and video to market the country’s tourism attractions and services.
The AccoleisureSol (Accommodation and Leisure) Tour Guide application provides local and foreign tourism stakeholders with access to operators or service providers in the country.
“We need to do more to attract tourists to Zimbabwe. Already, the country receives endorsements from across the world as a safe and must-visit destination. This destination visibility is convenient for travel,” says METHI Minister, Priscah Mupfumira.
She says the country is richly blessed with tourism attractions that can be made fully visible by embracing ICTs and that harnessing innovation provides many opportunities for the destination.
“The digital revolution has changed the way destinations are marketed across the globe. Tourists are better connected now than before,” she says.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Acting Chief Executive Officer, Givemore Chidzidzi, says the authority will ensure that the country does not lag behind in e-tourism.
Chidzidzi says the app ensures that Zimbabwe is taken to the world, going beyond its domestic tourism into regional and international tourism, providing users with a reliable information centre at their fingertips.
In a tourism environment, where information is important and required in the least time possible, he says the app is a vital component of Zimbabwe’s digital tourism products.
The app can be downloaded from Google Play store and Apple store.
