My tourism journey began in 1995 when I was invited to develop the Brenton On Sea Hotel with the owner, Eddie Bain. It was then that I saw whales from the deck and enquired about tourism structures within our tourism and conservation system. At that time, Dr Ken Findlay was holding discussions about whale tourism and by November of 1995, I had become Chairman of the MTN Whale Route. Over the following six years, on behalf of the organisation, I received an international Tourism for Tomorrow award, two Green Trust Awards and a Raptor Award for its achievements.
I have been privileged over the years to hold positions of Chair of Knysna Tourism and the Garden Route Tourism Organisation and also represented the Garden Route RTO on the Western Cape Tourism Board.
The next chapter of my life saw me being invited to assist the elephant owners to establish a representative body and guiding them through the process of developing their codes of conduct and industry guidelines.
Now, as director of Conservation Guardians, I am committed to promoting conservation achievement within our beautiful country.
