SAA has confirmed the appointed of Monwabisi Kalawe as the new ceo for the airline.
Making the announcement at a media briefing this morning, Minister of Public Enterprises, Malusi Gigaba, said Monwabisi brings with him extensive experience from both the private and public sector.
Following media reports about Monwabisi's appointment last week, the airline refused to comment on what it called “speculative reports”. SAA spokesperson, Tlali Tlali, told TUO: “We are unable to assist with information in relation to speculative reports in the media on who the ceo will be. These reports are based on faceless sources and the only dignified thing to do is to ignore them.”
Monwabisi is currently the ceo of Compass Group SA, a company that provides food and a range of selected support services. Previously, he was general manager of Cape Town International Airport from 1998 to 2004.
The airline has not given an exact date on which the new ceo will take up his duties, but added that it will be soon.
