Lake Ngami Conservation Trust has revealed plans to develop the area for tourism, with campsites and a public boat station.

Frisco Gabokakanngwe, Chairperson of the Trust, told Tourism Update they were expecting to start construction early next year after the environmental impact assessment and tendering had been completed.

A plan identifies activities such as fishing, horse trails and water skiing as potential tourism activities.

The camps will be built at Thololamoro Legotlhwane, Machaba, Bothathogo and Tswelelenyane in the Ngami sub-district in the northwest of Botswana. Two mobile safari camps and a public boat station will be located near Toteng along the Nhabe River.

Lake Ngami lies in the north-west of Botswana in a shallow sedimentary basin near Sehitwa, south-west of the Okavango Delta.
