Dudu Tshetho, Tourism Officer for the Northern Cape Tourism Authority confirmed with Tourism Update at Africa’s Travel Indaba that a new route, the Ghaap Gateway is being developed in the Kalahari.
According to Tshetho, the launch is planned for September 24, which coincides with Heritage Day.
The Northern Cape is divided into different regions, namely, Diamond Fields, Karoo, Namaqua, Green Kalahari and the Kalahari. Tshetho said Ghaap Gateway would cover three out of the five regions, the Kalahari, Green Kalahari and Diamond Fields.
Once complete, Ghaap Gateway will showcase new signage, noticeboards and various developments along the way, all with the help of the municipality, government and private sector.
Furthermore, Ghaap Gateway will incorporate various heritage and cultural sites that are present in the area.
