South Africa’s inbound tourist numbers continued their upward trajectory in August, registering a slight month-on-month increase.
According to the latest figures from Statistics South Africa, overall, overseas arrivals increased by 2.6% (from 161 376 in July to 165 705 in August).
Arrivals from Europe grew from 88 440 in July, to 93 602 in August. This was offset by a drop in numbers from the US (from 31 612 in July to 29 300 in August).
July arrivals were at 84% of 2019 pre-pandemic levels.
That figure has now dropped backed to 80% - the same as in May and June.
