After a 14-month renovation and investment of R2.5 million (€122 475), Meropa Casino & Entertainment World in Limpopo has unveiled its newly launched WildThingz Bird and Reptile Park, and water park.
The well-established Polokwane Pets & Hobbies store, owned by Andrew Fraser, has opened at Meropa to care for the birds and reptiles, which include both local and international species such as Rosy-faced and Fischer’s lovebirds, common parakeet, Kakariki, Bobwhite quail, Zebra doves and finches, Indian ring necks, Red-and-green macaw, as well as lemurs and the smallest fox, the Fennec.
For reptile admirers, there are yellow anacondas, Honduran milk snakes, Eastern Chain Kingsnakes, Red-tailed boas, various types of pythons, and Butterfly lizards.
Wild Thingz is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 09h00 until 17h00 and offers daily snake shows and guided tours.
Other new additions to Meropa include a 25m swimming pool offering water games such as pool basketball, water gun battles, freeze tag, airball, diving Olympics, belly flop contests, and more. Trained lifeguards are on duty whenever the pool is open.
“Even outside the warmer months, Meropa now brings a myriad of exciting things to do to keep the whole family busy, from a trackless train, paddle cars, quad bikes, arcade games, pool table, table soccer, and oversized chess,” said Meropa GM, Sammy Mokhele.
“We are also eagerly anticipating the next school holiday period, where we have an agenda for fun, which includes sack races, PlayStation games, a tour of WildThingz with a snake show, tug of war, Jenga, and even lunch for the kids.
“As the heartbeat of Limpopo, Meropa’s entertainment offering is suited to more than just kids’ parties, with our new private gaming room and an upcoming renovation for our Salon Privé,” said Mokhele.
The recently launched Meropa Outdoor Arena on the lawns is the ideal venue for concerts and exhibitions and can take up to 4 000 people standing.
There is also a new coffee shop where guests can relax and enjoy refreshments and a light meal, as well as a sweet shop, party shop and a beachwear store.
