Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti has completed the largest solar farm in the famed national park in Tanzania, allowing the property to fully transition to off-grid energy generation.
The 77-room luxury property installed 2 256 solar PV panels, which are expected to save more than 640 000 litres of diesel annually and 14 197 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the next 25 years.
“This solar farm is more than just an energy solution," said Marisa Fernandes, GM of Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti. “The project demonstrates that responsible practices can coexist with extraordinary experiences, ensuring the beauty and wonder of the Serengeti remain intact.”
Various other projects are also enhancing the lodge’s environmental and community sustainability. Its Discovery Centre and the Discovery Centre Fund collect proceeds from every safari, boutique sale and guest donation to support several critical community and wildlife projects in and around the Serengeti.
The projects include rhino conservation, the Frankfurt Zoological Society's Serengeti de-snaring initiative, the safe house for vulnerable women and girls in Mugumu and ongoing support of nearby Robunda School.
