Botswana’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism announced the reopening of the Gaborone, Central Kalahari and Khutse game reserves on March 11. The reserves were temporarily closed on February 21 due to adverse weather conditions.

While the sites will be accessible to the public, authorities have cautioned visitors about challenging road conditions. Some areas remain flooded and certain routes are still slippery and muddy from the heavy rains, making travel through the reserves potentially hazardous. In the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, sections between Matswere Gate and Deception, as well as Piper Pans and Passarge, remain flooded.

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates.
