The 79th Skål International World Congress will be held in Mombasa from October 17-21, the first time the event is being held in Kenya.
“The congress will offer members the opportunity to meet with experts who will offer insights into trends and emerging technologies in the travel and tourism market; plus find ways to improve business and stay competitive in the current economic climate,” said Mombasa Governor, Hassan Joho.
Skål is the only international group uniting tourism leaders from all branches of the travel and tourism industry around the world, to promote and grow tourism globally. It has approximately 15 000 members across 90 countries, with myriad smaller activities taking place at local, national, regional and international levels to ‘do business among friends’.
The programme will include discussions on the global tourism marketplace and business-to-business; a general assembly for delegates and observers; president’s forum; travel forum with keynote speakers and a panel; and a young Skål workshop.
It will be flanked by pre- and post-congress excursions, which will allow guests to experience a number of Kenya’s sights and attractions – from Tsavo East with its elephants, lions, buffalo, eland, giraffes, buck and possibly rhinos, as well as a number of birds; the the Masai Mara in an air safari; Taita Hills and Amboseli National Park, to the Rift Valley and Kliambo.
Guests are advised that online applications for visas are possible through Kenya’s E-Visa portal, removing the anxiety of obtaining a visa on arrival. “Upon request, the Secretariat of the 79th Skål World Congress can e-mail a personal invitation to participants,” says Skål Kenya’s website. “This invitation is meant only to help visitors to obtain a visa. Official letters of invitation designed to help overcome administrative difficulties in certain countries may also be sent on request. If you require an original letter, it is recommended that you send your request well in advance to account for postal delivery times.”
