Airports Company South Africa (Acsa), in collaboration with Etafeni Day Care Centre, has announced the graduation of Acsa’s beneficiaries of the Learn-How-To-Sew Programme.
A graduation ceremony was held at the Etafeni Day Care Centre in Nyanga, Cape Town last week.
Acsa’s beneficiaries are mainly from Freedom Farm, Malawi Camp and Blikkiesdorp informal settlement communities surrounding Cape Town International Airport.
Twenty-four participants completed the programme over six months.
The programme started with Life Skills Training, facilitated by Etafeni Day Care Centre, which helped participants identify and establish personal goals, desires, and expectations.
Following the Life Skills Training, participants delved into the Sewing Skills Training, a National Qualifications Framework Level 1 course spanning 72 days, accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations, and the Sector Education and Training Authority.
Under the guidance of experienced instructors, participants gained practical knowledge and hands-on experience in garment construction, preparing them for employment opportunities in the textile industry.
Additionally, participants participated in a Fit for Work Programme, which included computer literacy, financial literacy, and business development sessions. These components aimed to enhance participants' employability and entrepreneurial skills.
"Through initiatives like the Learn-How-To-Sew Programme, we are creating pathways to economic opportunities and fostering sustainable development within our communities," said Elelwani Tshikovhi, Acsa Group Manager for Transformation
