Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) is set to host the first Ziya Buya E'Airport KASI Market at OR Tambo International Airport from 10h00-18h00 tomorrow (Saturday, October 26).
The initiative is part of ACSA’s KASI Localisation and Passenger Mobilisation Project – a collaborative effort with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development and The Innovation Hub – aimed at revitalising township economies and promoting SMMEs within the airport community.
The market will serve as a dynamic space for local entrepreneurs to showcase their small businesses in communities surrounding the airport. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore and purchase locally crafted gifts, a variety of food and non-alcoholic beverages and participate in activities designed for all ages.
"This event marks a significant step towards making airports more accessible and inviting for all South Africans, particularly those living in rural and surrounding township areas," said Laurie Less, ACSA’s Group Executive: Corporate Services. "This is a first step in repositioning airports as a safe and convenient shopping and transport alternative for all – not just the elite. We aim to create an atmosphere that encourages frequent visits, fosters a desire to travel and highlights the diverse offerings at our airports.”
The market will also feature live entertainment, festive activities and a chance for visitors to immerse themselves in the culture and creativity of the local community. This initiative also aims to bring people together in a dynamic and entertaining environment.
