Celebrating excellence in the global cruise industry, the 2024 World Cruise Awards in Funchal, Madeira, on November 26 named the Cape Town Cruise Terminal “Africa’s best” for the fourth consecutive year.
The Africa’s Best Cruise Terminal Award highlights the terminal’s commitment to providing a high-quality experience for passengers and reinforcing its role as a premier gateway to Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront. The recognition follows an earlier accolade this year when the World Travel Awards presented the Africa’s Leading Cruise Port Award to Cape Town.
Andre Blaine, Executive Manager of Marine and Industrial Property, commenting on the milestone, said: “These achievements reflect our dedication to excellence and our mission to present Cape Town in the best possible light. As the first point of contact for sea arrivals, the terminal is key to shaping visitors’ experiences and we strive to make each arrival memorable.”
The terminal’s success has been bolstered by integrating cruise facilities with retail and food outlets as well as commercial spaces. This innovation has enhanced its role as a drawcard for visitors and increased foot traffic across the broader Waterfront precinct.
The recognition also acknowledges the collaboration between key stakeholders including:
- Western Cape government
- City of Cape Town
- Transnet National Ports Authority
- South African Maritime Safety Authority
- Cruise Cape Town (powered by Wesgro)
These partnerships have played a critical role in growing South Africa’s cruise tourism sector and establishing Cape Town as a preferred cruise destination.
